Too be perfectly honest I have not
used The New York Times that often. I’ve
used my own personal news media, relying on my MSNBC App on my iPhone. However, that is not to say I have not used The
New York Times before. On several
occasions I have. So, I feel I’ll hybridized
my observations in using both these media tools.
It is obvious that news medias have
their own bias. That’s nothing new. The New York Times is perhaps one of the few
more neutral. MSNBC is obviously more liberal.
However, when I look at the same story reported on either I can see, in
some cases, there is a difference in the way the story is reported. The language and tone used goes hand in hand
with the way the author, or even the station, sees it. In using MSNBC more often than not, I have to
admit that I am missing perhaps some news stories that aren’t favored by the
news station. In addition, I miss the
ability to see differing opinions. Most
people who use MSNBC all have similar opinions and views. The New York Times allows people from
differing opinions to express themselves more readily.
I myself
have come to recognize that when I start off reading and article, if I don’t
like the way in which it was written, be it vocabulary or even tone, I tend to
close it and move on. I look for stories,
which are told, with an underlying opinion that is similar to my own. If one wanted, you could certainly attribute
this concept in the way in which we interact with one another. You are more likely to discuss a topic with
someone you know/feel would share the same idea(s) as you then you are with
someone who would differ.
